Hey Stephanie Yoong, thanks for reading & replying. I guess a few things. Firstly, it’s not that non-white non-male can’t assume positions of leadership — just that they face extra barriers, and leadership literature doesn’t seem particularly interested in examining or dismantling those barriers. Secondly, the post very much came from a place that most non-white, non-male people I have met who are interested in social change tend to talk about “power,” rather than “leadership.” This hasn’t come out of a vacuum of my thinking, it’s something inspired by conversations with a lot of different people. Lastly, the post is directed at people with privilege like me too, as part of being a good ally is being aware of these sorts of patterns in society.
